We merely want to share that most individuals have no idea how much sugar they are actually consuming on a daily basis. Here are the facts according to MDhealth.com when it comes to just how much sugar you should be having.

Sugar Consumption Facts

  • Women should have 24 grams (or less) of sugar each day. This equals about 6 teaspoons of sugar.
  • Men should have 36 grams (or less) of sugar each day. This equals about 9 teaspoons of sugar.

Comparing Sugar

For the general public, the truth remains that most individuals consume much more than the recommended amount of sugar. Common culprits that take sugar intake beyond the recommended levels include soda, candy, white bread, cereals, and granola bars.

When looking at the label of a 12 oz can of Coca Cola it is easy to see that it contains 39 grams of sugar. It may taste good, but wow that’s a lot of sugar! That amount is equivalent to about 9 and 1/3 teaspoons of sugar. Enjoying one sugary can of Coca Cola will put you over your daily limit.

Additional foods that contain surprising amounts of added sugar include tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, fruit flavored yogurt, salad dressings, and soups. Some of these things may not seem like they would have a lot of sugar in them at first glance. It is for this reason that it is important as a consumer to take the time and read labels carefully. Paying close attention to labels is worth the time it takes.
