Don’t Suffer From Sports Injuries

Have you seen the soccer field filling up? With spring sports in full swing, we have noticed that the tennis courts, baseball diamonds, golf courses, soccer fields, and lacrosse fields are full of activity. This activity is great as it promotes health and wellness, and it means that spring is finally upon us!

Sports Injuries Are RealSports Injuries

The statistics are out there to support that a sports related injury is a possibility for all athletes. The Youth Sports Safety Alliance reports that, “High school athletes suffer 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year.”

Prevention is Key

The Youth Sports Safety Alliance cautions that prevention is critical in avoiding a sports related injury. This is especially true as a history of injury is associated with a higher risk factor of future injury. High school student athletes are required to have a preparticipation physical. This is helpful in identifying potential risk factors and advising student athletes accordingly. Additionally, many preventative measures can be taken in providing appropriate equipment, practice facilities, and properly trained staff such as athletic trainers.

What if we are dealing with a Sports Related injury?

While participating in sports, common injuries occur in the ankles, knees, shoulders, elbows, and spine. It is important to follow the advice of an athletic trainer and physician when injury occurs. The American Chiropractic Association also recommends that joint manipulation can assist in the reduction of pain. Dr. Todd Supnick of the Chiropractic Center of Kennesaw is known as an outstanding extremity adjuster. He has helped people find relief from pain, and even avoid surgery, through shoulder, ankle, knee, and wrist adjustments.
