Chiropractic Care vs. Pain Killers

Chiropractor in KennesawBelieve it or not, pain can actually be your friend so don’t hide what it is trying to tell you by masking it with long term use of pain killers. Pain is the body’s way of telling us that something needs attention and care. This is one of the basic concepts held by Chiropractors.

The danger in medicating pain away, especially over a long period of time is that it can creates a false sense of security—“Oh, the pain is gone, so I must be all right.” Another danger is the very real chance of damaging our bodies with an overdose of pain medication.

Even over-the-counter pain medications that are perceived as being very mild and safe are not safe in certain quantities, and they are certainly not meant to be taken over a long period of time. If we overuse them, we may introduce a whole, new dangerous health issue into our lives.

Tylenol, for example, is perceived as a very safe, over-the-counter, American-as-apple-pie medication. Doctors and nurses routinely recommend Tylenol by brand name, even for children.

Yet The Journal of General Internal Medicine published a study that says Americans are taking way too much Tylenol and other sources of acetaminophen.

Chiropractic Care Could Have Saved Her Kidney

In the book, The Chiropractic Evolution by David R. Moore, D.C., the story is told of a patient who had experienced a lot of headaches as a young girl. Because of her headaches, she took Tylenol very frequently for a number of years. By the time she was in her early twenties, she was on kidney dialysis from the cumulative effects of so much Tylenol.

Chiropractic care immediately relieved her headaches, but unfortunately her kidney damage was permanent.  Taken day after day after day, multiple times a day for a couple of decades, such drugs are dangerous, no matter how benign they appear in advertisements and no matter how helpful they are to our everyday comfort levels.
